Getting Started

Everything you need to know to start tracking your horse buying journey.

1

Create your account

To get started, create an account with your email address and a password (minimum 8 characters).

Once signed up, you'll be taken to your dashboard where a default folio will be created for you automatically.

2

Understand folios

A folio is a workspace for organizing horses you're considering buying. Think of it as a shared folder for a specific horse search.

You can:

  • Create multiple folios for different searches or buyers
  • Switch between folios using the dropdown in the top-left of your dashboard
  • Share folios with trainers, agents, or family members so everyone stays on the same page

To create a new folio, click the folio dropdown in the header and select New Folio.

3

Add horses

There are two ways to add horses to your folio:

Add manually

Click the Add Horse button on your dashboard. Fill in the details you know — only the name is required. You can add the breed, age, location, asking price, notes, and upload photos or videos.

Import from Facebook

Found a horse on Facebook? Click the Import button, paste the post content, and Horsefolio will automatically extract the horse's details (name, age, breed, location, and price). You can also paste image URLs from the post to download them.

Review the parsed information, make any edits, and confirm to add the horse to your folio.

You can always edit a horse's details later by clicking on its card and selecting Edit.

4

Organize with statuses

Every horse has a status that helps you track where it is in your buying process:

Inbox

New horses land here. This is your triage area for horses you've just discovered or been told about.

Liked

Move horses here when you're seriously interested. Liked horses automatically get progress-tracking steps to help you manage the buying process.

Archived

For horses you've decided to pass on. They're hidden from your main view but still accessible under the Archived tab.

Use the tabs at the top of your dashboard (Inbox, Liked, Archived) to filter your view. Change a horse's status from its detail page.

5

Collaborate with others

Horse shopping is often a team effort. Horsefolio makes it easy to loop in trainers, agents, or family members.

As a folio owner, click Manage collaborators below your folio name to:

  • Send email invitations — invite specific people by email. Invitations expire after 7 days.
  • Create a shareable link — generate a link that anyone can use to join your folio.

All members of a folio can view horses, add new ones, leave comments, and track progress. Only the folio owner can manage members and delete the folio.

6

Discuss and track progress

Comments

Each horse has a discussion thread where you and your collaborators can leave comments. Share your thoughts on a horse, ask questions, or note things you've learned. Unread comments are flagged on horse cards so you never miss an update.

Progress steps

When you move a horse to Liked, a set of default steps is created automatically:

  1. Schedule viewing
  2. View horse
  3. Vet check
  4. Make offer

Check off steps as you complete them to keep everyone informed of where you are in the buying process.

7

Manage your profile

Click your name in the top-right corner of the dashboard to visit your profile page, where you can:

  • Set a display name so collaborators can easily identify you
  • Upload a profile photo
  • Manage API tokens for the browser extension
